Online Classes Due To COVID-19: Here Is What You Need

This is such a crazy time with most schools transitioning to online classes. For most of us, online classes are foreign territory and were not our first choice. Taking classes online is great for some people! However, for others, it can be hard to stay focused and turn in work on time. As someone who has taken online classes before this forced transition, I have compiled a list of must haves that are sure to make your online classes a breeze!

1. Apple Macbook Air

A laptop (or at least a computer of some sort) is obviously a no-brainer for taking an online course. I would recommend a laptop over a desktop, simply because moving around and having a change of scenery can be really nice. Macbook laptops can be on the expensive side… However, they are very user friendly and the most compatible with the programs that schools are using right now. You can get a  new Macbook Air for $100 cheaper than apple on amazon!Apple MacBook AirBuy Here:

2. Google Chromebook

Chromebook tablets are another laptop alternative. I don’t have enough experience with them to know how user friendly they are. However, I do know that a Chromebook has a touch screen and can switch between serving as a laptop and a tablet. These are a slightly less expensive option when it comes to laptops.Google ChromeBookBuy Here:

3. Apple AirPods

Headphones are a must have for when your teachers make you video chat on Zoom. Apple AirPods are nice because they are super light weight. Investing in bluetooth headphones is a good call so you can move around easily without a cord getting tangled up. Apple also offers the AirPod Pro, which are noise canceling. These can come in super handy if you’re at home with some noisy family members!   Apple AirpodsBuy Here:

4. Desk

As tempting as it is to do all of your work from your bed, it’s not the most efficient way of doing things. Unfortunately, I find that I am the least productive in my bed (working in bed is an easy way to fall asleep during class!). A small desk in your room is the perfect little nook to dedicate to your studies and to store your school work.

5. Desk Chair

What is a desk with out a desk chair? It’s important to invest in a decently comfortable desk chair. I mean, you will be sitting in this chair for the rest of the semester. Sitting in a crappy chair for long periods of time is a perfect way to hurt your back. Trust me, a nice desk chair is worth it!

6. Desk Lamp

Sometimes ceiling lights just don’t do the trick! A desk lamp will illuminate your work space and help keep you from straining your eyes. Personally, I find overhead lights too harsh. Because of this, I prefer to turn off my ceiling lights and work with my desk lamp.

7. Wireless Printer

Even though you will be turning in your assignments online, a printer is a must have! You will still need to print study guides, worksheets, packets, and essays to proofread. I would recommend a wireless printer because I find this to be the quickest and easiest way to print things. Wireless PrinterBuy Here:

8. Reading Pillow

For the times that you’re sick of sitting at your desk, this reading pillow is the perfect accessory to get some work done in bed (yes, I know that I just said not to do work in bed). I had one of these in my college dorm room and I absolutely plan on using it at home!

9. Lap Desk

In addition to your reading pillow, this lap desk will help you do some studying from bed. This lap desk includes a space for your phone as well as space for a wireless mouse. The cushions will help you study comfortably, while avoiding straining your wrists from typing. Lets be real… We all study from bed sometimes.

10. 2020 Planner

If you’re planning on handing your work in on time, you are going to NEED a planner! This will help you keep track of assignments, tests, and class meetings. I used one of these throughout my time on campus and feel that I will need one even more now that I have online classes.

11. 2020 Desk Calendar

Even with a planner, a desk calendar can be a lifesaver! It may sound silly, but having your due dates right in front of your face can do wonders to beat procrastination. Similar to a planner, this desk calendar is just a great way to keep track of life!  2020 Desk CalendarBuy Here:

12. White Noise Machine

With the circumstances that we’re currently in, siblings are home from school and parents are home from work. Writing papers and studying for exams is no easy task, especially when in a loud and hectic environment. A white noise machine is the perfect way to keep your work space free of the chaos that is likely surrounding you.

In all honesty, this transition is extremely difficult and underestimated by many. As a college student, I know first-hand how challenging it was to move home so suddenly and begin online classes. Most of us didn’t sign up for online classes and this is a whole new world to navigate. I hope that this list of items helps some of you during your Spring 2020 semester. I am sending everyone positive thoughts for peace of mind and good health!

I just recently bought a lap desk, which has been a game-changer for me! It lets me move around my house with ease! I really am thinking about biting the bullet and buying some AirPods because I’m really tired of my chords getting tangled. I did not realize the pros were noise-canceling, which gives me another reason to buy some!

I love that the lap desk allows me to study easily in different locations! If you’re looking to invest in AirPods, I would definitely recommend the pros. On top of being noise cancelling, they sit in your ears much more comfortably!
